A Fresh Start

Reading through the Bible, start to finish, is on my list of goals for 2012. I managed to make it through the Bible in 2011, but I sure don't say that to toot any horns. The reason you won't hear me boasting about it is this:

Sometimes, this past year, I'd read a verse and swear it wasn't in there the last time I read through it. Tells me how much I missed, that the point is not to check off a list of verses, but rather to be transformed. Daily. Repeat.

I also got behind, sometimes as much as two months' behind, and when I read to catch up it was much like reading the cliff notes of some great classic.

But I made it. And it was overall a wonderful experience, and it felt more than fabulous to be at the end of Revelation before December 31.

Sitting down, yesterday morning, and reading "In the beginning" in Genesis was fun, exciting even.

I share here that I've done so, and am going to do it again, to encourage anyone who thinks it's just too big an elephant to eat. It's not - one bite (or day) at a time. If you've never done it, I highly recommend it. Grab a Bible you feel free to jot and underline and circle and highlight and see what God has to say to you this year. I'd like to leave this Bible of mine behind completely worn out; to have spent enough time in it that my fingers just know where to go to find Haggai or Job or 1 Thessalonians.

If you'd like to join me, you're only one day behind! Go here to find a reading plan that suits your lifestyle and personality.

P.S. If you have a kindle or some other reader, you can download a Bible for free. I actually finished Revelation flying over Salt Lake City.

I've read the first five books so many times (it's where we start in 1st grade), that I skipped entirely to Joshua to start yesterday, just to help out with my consistency issues ;)

Love it! Have done a read thru the past 2 years, & am eager to try again. I'm trying out a chronological read for size, since I sometimes feel clueless re: the time line. No matter how the Bible is arranged, tho, it's unchanging nature is alive & so very applicable to our hearts today as much as "back in the day" .

I'm working my way through the Bible, too. I've never done a chronological read, so that's what I'm doing this time.
